DENVER - *UPDATE* Search dogs picked up the scent of a missing girl in Denver Sunday but the trail ran cold. More than 200 volunteers are now helping in the search for 3-year-old Niveah Gallegos. Those volunteers helped go dumpster to dumpster in search of the toddler Denver police believe was killed.
The little girl was reported missing Friday. Police quickly arrested her mother and her mother's boyfriend. The boyfriend, Angel Ray Montoya is suspected of first-degree murder. The girl's mother, Miriam, may be charged with accessory to a crime and child abuse resulting in death. Neither has been charged.
Originally police responded to a call of a possible kidnapping. They say the mother called police and told them that two white men had forced Niveah into a car. After about an hour of searching for the girl police called off Friday's Amber Alert and started looking for the two people now under arrest.
Gallegos has been in trouble for drug possession but has no violent offenses in her criminal record.
