DURANGO - A man from Ignacio was found guilty Friday for the murder of Clifton Joesph Greany.
The six-day trial ended after a five-hour deliberation before delivering the guilty verdict. Isaac Headman was found guilty of first degree murder, felony murder, and kidnapping, for the August 22 - 23, 2007 murder of Greany. Headman will be sentenced on January 14th in Durango where he could face a mandatory life sentence.
Headman and three other accomplices from the same Indian tribe beat and stabbed Clifton Greany to death. The others involved, Johnita Taylor, April Watts and Monica Williams, had plead guilty before Headman's trial and are now awaiting sentencing. Williams, Watts and Taylor face 25-years in federal prison while all four defendants face a fine of up to $250,000.
"Tribal and federal officials working together to ensure justice is done - that's what it's all about," said U.S. Attorney Troy Eid. "We really appreciate the jury's dedicated service, and the support of the Southern Ute Tribe and the people of Southwestern Colorado."
