PUEBLO - Two renters woke up to a dirty situation when they found raw sewage leaking through their home Wednesday morning.
For the second time in four months, raw sewage has leaked through a Pueblo home divided into four apartments in the 500 block of West 12th Street.
NEWSCHANNEL 13 first reported the bizarre leak in July, when a previous renter wanted answers from her property manager. At the time, the property manager, Elias Haddad, told NEWSCHANNEL 13 the renter was being thrown out and was bitter about the situation.
On Wednesday morning, however, it was a similar situation, with raw sewage leaking out onto sidewalks and the home's backyard. The new renters, a Pueblo couple, tell NEWSCHANNEL 13 they have only lived in the apartment for a couple of weeks and have already paid their rent in full.
The couple told NEWSCHANNEL 13 they called the property manager, the same one from July, numerous times but received little response. The two say after a few calls, the property manager stopped answering his phone.
The Pueblo City-County Health Department was at the home earlier Wednesday, and placed signs on the front door explaining the uninhabitable situation.
A next-door neighbor, Bryon Wilson, says the plumbing problems in the house have not been fixed for two years.
"They promise they're going to fix things and nothing happens," Wilson said.
Wilson says he, along with some of the tenants, have called the property manager and the owner of the property numerous times with little response or action.
"This is my neighborhood, I have a family here, this is important to me."
Wilson says his son had to walk through one of the areas littered with sewage earlier in the day. Wilson has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years and says he can deal with the area changing, but admits he's losing his patience.
"It gets pretty disheartening."
NEWSCHANNEL 13 placed calls to both the property manager and the owner of the property Wednesday evening. The first call to Haddad was answered then placed on hold before the line went silent. A follow-up call was greeted by a voicemail and went unreturned as of 10:00 PM. A call made to the property owner went unreturned as of 10:00 PM.
