COLORADO SPRINGS - The El Pomar Foundation is donating $3 million to the City of Colorado Springs to help the city make a required $13 million payment to the United States Olympic Committee on Nov. 18. The payment was in doubt because citywide fundraising efforts spearheaded by Mayor Lionel Rivera fell well short of the needed amount. The El Pomar donation will allow the payment to be made in-full and keep the USOC deal from unraveling. Another $3 million payment is due in Sept. 2011. El Pomar CEO and Chairman Bill Hybl says he will head a group to raise those funds, and is even soliciting help from other statewide leaders, including Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. El Pomar was instrumental in bringing the USOC headquarters to Colorado Springs in 1977. The money will be used to make upgrades to the Olympic Training Center.
