COLORADO SPRINGS- A key leader in the war in Iraq is on a different mission in Colorado Springs.
The General David Petraeus arrived at the Broadmoor to show his support at the 5th annual "For the Love of Our Troops" benefiting military families.
Over a thousand people gathered at the For Our Troops dinner Tuesday night to hear the General and other American Soldiers speak, but before that he took the time to meet with some area soldiers that have been injured in battle
During a press conference Petraeus said, "they are very special Americans and it's so nice to see how they are being honored tonight and it's also great to hear how our country is taking care of them."
One wounded warrior who was shot four times in Afghanistan told NEWSCHANNEL 13 that Petraeus took the time to have a conversation with several injured soldiers to ensure they are each getting the help they need.
"We talked about how things are going...the rehab process...and doing what you do when something like this happens."
Petraus also said that events like the For the Love of our Troops dinner are very important for troop morale, and to show the families of troops how important they are to the country.
"Nothing means more to our troops and their families than knowing that there is someone back home that value what it is that there doing out there in harms way and support them".
We did ask General Petraeus about the conflicting opinions over the problems in Afghanistan. He said that we would not be answering that kind of questions, but did say he just got back from some meetings in Washington concerning the situation.
