BLACK FOREST - Roads in Black Forest were covered with a sheet of ice Wednesday morning. Hodgen road appeared to be the worst. "It's what happens when you live out in the country with a view, you pay the price," said stranded driver Alphie Hutmacher.
And Hutmacher did pay the price; the price of a tow truck. "I was almost hit about 4 times. I have watched a school bus full of children being stuck trying to get up the hill," said Hutmacher. After slipping and sliding, and watching other near accidents, Hutmacher decided to throw in the towel and call a tow truck.
Patience was the next step. "They're a little busy this morning they said probably about an hour and a half so I'm sitting here waiting," said Hutmacher. Other drivers decided not to wait. Some were successful some were not.
"I was just trying to get a little more traction, and I figured it would be a little easier in the dirt where tires could dig in, than the street, but no," said stranded driver Walter Callaway. Another contributing factor to the rough driving conditions was the wind. Wind-driven snow caused low visibilities in northeastern El Paso County.
