PUEBLO COUNTY - Sheriff's Officers spent hours off Highway 96 near the Pueblo and Crowley county line on Saturday afternoon. We may now know why.
When NEWSCHANNEL 13 called to get more information about the incident Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Laurie Kilpatrick said deputies were in the area conducting an investigation and further details wouldn't be available until Sunday. We asked if the investigation put the public safety in any danger. She replied no.
Saturday evening, the Pueblo Chieftain reported the discovery of human remains in that same area off Highway 96. They were reportedly found in an unmarked grave by a hunter near Holmes Rd., west of Pueblo.
The Pueblo County Coroner told the Chieftain the remains do look to be from an adult human. A forensic anthropologist is also reportedly part of the investigation team.
We await word from the Pueblo Sheriff's Office confirming the report and to learn more details about the possible identity of the body.
